Clima desértico al norte, subtropical al centro, ecuatorial al sur. Las precipitaciones son casi inexistentes al noroeste de Sudán (desierto de Libia), en cambio resultan más importantes en el litoral y sobre todo en el sur del país. En el norte, los días son muy calurosos pero las noches muy frescas. En el centro de Sudán, la estación lluviosa (no muy significativa) dura de junio a octubre. Al sur, la estación lluviosa es más duradera: el nivel de precipitaciones es elevado y las temperaturas permanecen constantes todo el año. El clima es más templado a orillas del mar Rojo.
